Watercoloring

One more before I go back to work tomorrow! My goal this month is to use three new stamps. I bought this buck last summer from Heartfelt Creations. Today, I heat embossed him in black three times on watercolor paper and got my card design and coloring inspiration from here and here.

My Reeves watercolors. I believe I bought them from Michael's. Maybe Hobby Lobby. They're quite inexpensive.

Burnt Umber. Otherwise known as brown. Squeezed a bit onto my handy dandy palette and added two or three drops of water.

Mix with brush. I like to purchase my brushes separately. Bought mine on sale at Michael's. I regularly use about six brushes and four of them are the size of the one in this picture.

Paint will stick to the brush. Wipe the brush in the next well, this creates a lighter shade. No need to add more water.

A third wiping. I added a couple drops of water to the fourth well.

Painted my buck as light as possible.

Notice the difference in all three. The beautiful thing about watercolor? That's okay!

I like to experiment directly on the watercolor paper when adding a darker shade.

You can see how the first one is nice and blended and the second has strokes of darker shade.

Experimenting with drops of water. I ended up using six wells! All from one little blob of paint.

Once the darker strokes are applied. I clean my brush in basically brown water and blend. You can see the "brown water" in the sixth well.

Good and blended! Added some green to the grass. Took less than a minute.

I cut each buck using an oval spellbinder die. Shaded the background with shimmery blue chalk, hard to see because I used flash. The background paper is from a boy stack by MME. The die cut is from Storybook, Expression. Added some bamboo twine and a button. Two birthday sentiments and one thank you sentiment.

Thanks for all the kind comments! You make blogging fun and worthwhile :)
