Valentines for Teachers

It's a Sunday like any other today. Cooking, cleaning, and getting things in order for the week. With all my time at home last week, I was able to finish my Valentine projects for my son's teachers.

I decided to go with matchbox boxes. I accidentally cut them out way too big with my Tags, Bags, Boxes and More Cricut cartridge, but it actually worked out perfectly. You'll see why further down.

I used papers from Uncommon by Authentique. I love the modern pink, grey, and cream color combination and thought it was perfect this project. I used brads by My Mind's Eye for the drawer pulls. In the above photo, you can see a peek of some Pink Paislee tape on the corner of the pull out tray. I did that to reinforce durability.

The second box. My son has two classroom teachers. The fancy frame cuts and butterfly are Decorative Butterfly Border dies from Heartfelt Creations. The oval is also cut from Spellbinder dies. I topped the butterfly with silver embossing.

Here is why the six inches turned out to be perfect. I originally planned to fill the box with Kisses but got a huge hint about a love for peanut butter and chocolate. They don't match my box... I don't think the recipients will mind.

My Valentine

My li'l boy has been home sick all week with the flu. *sigh* At least, I'm getting lots of crafting done.

My husband loves me and he loves my craft projects. He even shows them off to his man friends. But he doesn't visit this blog so it's safe for me to show off his Valentine's Day gift.

He'll be out of town for the big day so I will be sneaking this into his suitcase.

Two years ago... maybe three, I bought a bunch of holiday gift card tins from Michael's. They were on clearance for 12 cents each. Another great justification for impulse buys! I just knew I'd use at least one someday. I have about a dozen left hehehehe.

I found some great tips for altering tins on the Junk & Stuff blog. I used papers from Graphic 45, including all the fussy cut elements- clocks, label, stamps. The license plate and grape soda stickers are by Tim Holtz. I used my good ol' dymo labeler for the sentiment.

Here it is opened up. I can just see him carrying it around and making everyone look at it next week. See the little heart on the note sign thing? That's good for the Simons Says Stamp Challenge this week: Have a Heart. They host a challenge every week starting on Wednesdays. I love their simple, highly interpretable themes.

I was going to put some locks of our son's hair in the tall vial but the latest haircut has already been thrown away. Maybe next time. In the shorter bottle, I wrote a little love note on a piece of cardstock, rolled it up and stuffed in the bottle. I used the cork from the same bottle to hold a stick pin in place. The stick pin holds a message "a note for you." Hopefully, he'll realize he needs to pull out the rolled up paper and read the note. I hope he likes the gift...

Tea Cup with Rose

I LOVE this project by Linda Duke. I decided I needed one for my house! I used the Bella Rose Dies to my flower. I sponged on a combination of pink and red distress inks. I also topped the flower with Wheatfields Glimmer Mist- my favorite! I cut the leaves with my Cricut but I can't remember which cartridge. The crinkled paper filler is from Michael's.

The tea cups were cut from Nested Tea Cups Shapeabilities. I used a Borderline Vintage Lace stamp by Technique Tuesday at the top of the tea cups. I inked all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I wanted to add a gold leafing accent like Linda did but my pen doesn't work anymore! Boo! The pretty patterned paper is from Cozy Christmas by The ScrapCake.

This little tea cup is a wonderful addition to my creative space!

Altered Clipboard *ScrapThat! August Kit*

I used the August Kit "Once Upon a Dream" from ScrapThat! to make this clipboard. The little cards with the clips can be pulled out of the pocket for notes. The black piece at the bottom is chipboard painted with Martha Stewart chalkboard paint- excellent for quick notes.

This clipboard is hanging in my kitchen and has been excellent for noting weekly appts and I've stashed a few important coupons in the pocket so I don't forget about them.

The fun tulle is from the kit. The button and tape are from my stash.

The border punch is Fiskars Sunburst. The gate and butterfly dies are from Spellbinders for Heartfelt Creations. The flower die cut is from my stash. 

The cream lace is from the kit and the green lace is from my stash.

Christmas Magnetic Tray *flying unicorn*

I made this for a recent issue of Enchanting Creations. The papers are from I Believe by Riddersholm, available at Flying Unicorn.

The mini roses are available at Flying Unicorn. All the other flowers were handmade by my friend Stephanie. Everything is topped with Glimmer Mist, also available at Flying Unicorn.

The sentiment stamp is by Northwoods. The Santa brad is Imaginisce and the chipboard stickers are from The Paper Studio, a Hobby Lobby brand. I used crackle paint on the edges of my photo mats. Flying Unicorn has every color of crackle paint!

Lighthouse- Altered Art

This was published in the September issue of Enchanting Creations Magazine.

I found this plain wood box at a yard sale for 50 cents and painted it white. The background paper is from Tahiti Beach by DCWV.

Stamp by Inkadinkado. Colored with Prismacolor pencils and blended with mineral spirits. Since this piece will be displayed in the bathroom, I sprayed with adhesive and then covered with mod podge. Love the texture!

My Contribution: Altered CD Case

Anne altered a CD cover into a card and I definitely wanted to try something similar. While I was thinking about how I wanted to do mine, I decided to make it a mini album.

This embellished square is by Raindrop Echo Designs for Whimsy Stamps. I used shimmering chalks by Pebbles Inc for color and cut out.
